RUNCLUB Fast Facts
Q: Where do you Meet?
A: Our location changes from week to week, giving people a different experience. Locations are provided in your registration package.
Q: I am not a runner, how will I keep up?
A: We have five different Run/Walk groups and within each group, people support one another through "Pick ups".
Q: What is a "Pick up"?
A: A "pick up" is where the group loops back to the end of the pack and "picks up" the other Run/walkers. This occurs in every group.
Q: What is a Run/Walk program?
A: This is a program where you gradually increase your time running and decrease your walking until you have developed a sufficient base for running.
Q: Will I do straight running when I have attained my personal goals?
A: No, we strongly recommend to all runners to decrease their chances for injuries and increase their enjoyment of movement to continue the Run/Walk program for their entire life. We have extensive testimonials that speak to the success of this.
Q: I ran a few years ago, can I start off in a middle group?
A: We strongly recommend that people fit into the group that corresponds with their present activity level.
Q: What is the youngest youth you would have join?
A: Our experience showed us that 10 years of age is developmentally an appropriate age, 9 if the parent is supporting the youth.
Q: What about the saying "no pain, no gain", shouldn't I be pushing to attain my personal goals?
A: Runclub philosophy is to enrich your life through a lifetime of movement, and our extensive personal experience has shown us the above mantra is prone to injury, physically and mentally.
Q: How do I make gains with the Runclub Walk/Run program.
A: You need to gradually do a number of things, Increase the elasticity of your lungs, strengthen ligaments, muscles, develop an efficient cooling system, improve your recovery, strengthen your skeletal system, and your heart. We could go on, but the bottom line is enjoy the process and be good to yourself.
Q: Can I move between Sunday and Tuesday Clinics?
A: Yes, just let us know in advance so we can have the appropriate coaches available.
Q: There are goal races in some of the clinics, are the fees on top of the clinic?
A: RUNCLUB has always supported community runs, Terry Fox, Run for the Cure, Boogie the Bridge, etc...and there is generally a small fee that goes to an amazing cause. We find that this is many RUNClubbers first experience at a "Race" and we feel it is very valuable for it to be done in a supportive environment, to ensure a feeling of personal success and growth.
Q: Do you do drop ins at RUNClub?
A: RUNCLUB is solidly based in the theory of a 'closed group theory' of group work. Many of us coaches are social workers, youth counsellors and teachers and believe very passionately in the intimacy, process and safety of a “closed group". Closed group means: Each participant is guaranteed the following:
• A very thorough experience from start to finish (a process of growth/fitness improvement and self discovery).
• Closed group work provides safety and intimacy (no people coming and going every week).
• Closed group work provides safety in programming (we know that you are getting the proper training with the precise percentages of increase each week in your running program). Drop ins are dramatically un-safe for the participants and is unhealthy running (hit and miss).
• Closed group work gives us all a very R-E-A-L experience and a chance to truly get to know each other. (This is critical at RUNClub not only to us coaches, but the participants as well).
• All RUNCLUB (4 each year) are a process from start to finish- there is a start, middle and closure - which is paramount for people’s growth and development - both physically and emotionally.
• Closing Celebrations: Each & every RUNCLUB has a very big celebration at the end : This is what life is all about!! Celebrating your success: RUNCLUB #1 - Spring Boogie Training. RUNCLUB #2 - Summer Training. RUNCLUB #3 - Fall Training. our annual Magic Road Trip. RUNCLUB #4 - Winter Training: Santa sleigh bell run and end of season celebration (breaking bread together in the beauty of the season).
• We (coaches) really love RUNCLUB and are passionately dedicated to the safety of programming: Both emotionally and physically. Thus, no drop ins (OPEN GROUP WORK).
*Notes of interest on the above:
1. Most everyone misses sessions: RUNClubberz love the online support and know that they can keep on track even when they have to miss (real life).
2. Some runclubberz decide to do an online RUNCLUB if they are truly away for the entire session - this is always an option as well.
