CHARACTER BUILDING
Demands made upon other people for too much attention, protection, and love can only invite inner pain and anxiety . . . . Uncovering our needs for approval can be life-changing. I didn't think approval should rank as a character defect ( a negative) . I wanted to think of it more as a positive (that is, the desire to please people). Over time it is quickly pointed out that this "need" can be very crippling. Today I still enjoy getting the approval of others, but I am not willing to pay the price I used to pay to get it. I will not bend myself into a pretzel to get others to like me or try to make everyone happy all the time. If I get your approval, that's wonderful ; but if I don't, I will survive without it. I am responsible for speaking what I perceive to be the truth, not what I think others may want to hear or need to make them happy. We are all responsible for our own happiness. Constantly needing to please others, leads to a decrease in our health ( mental health/ and physical health). RUNClub : Much MORE than running… Enjoy another beautiful day on planet earth… ~ Jo |
